Márai's poetic language adds a calm yet intense tension to the novel's atmosphere. Candles Burn to the End is a short but unforgettable book in which everyone who cannot escape confronting the past will find a piece of themselves. | | Music Jean-Michel Jarre and the Rise of Electronic MusicOnce a subject of academic study, created through room-sized modular devices, and primarily an experimental genre, "electronic music" rapidly found its place in popular music with the beginning of production of the Minimoog, the first compact analog synthesizer, in the late 60s. Different electronic sounds began to be heard in the world of records and on stage. By the mid-70s, the use of one or more synthesizers in pop, rock, or jazz albums became almost a standard, with few exceptions. The emergence of musicians and groups who created music partially or entirely with electronic devices also occurred during these years. During those days, a young French musician named Jean-Michel Jarre was beginning to make a name for himself in European music circles. Although he had undertaken various electronic music projects since the early 70s, they hadn't garnered the widespread attention he hoped for. In 1976, Jarre rolled up his sleeves to prepare for his new record. The "Oxygene" album, consisting of 6 parts that would deeply shake the music world, was recorded as 8 tracks in the kitchen of Jarre's home, which he had converted into a studio. Jarre's use of the powerful string sounds of the "Eminent 310 Unique" organ model with a phaser effect played a significant role in creating the album's unique sound, which utilized various devices of the era with different characteristics. Jarre took the album cover from a painting by a young artist named Michel Granger, which he had seen and liked at an exhibition in Paris. Initially, record companies refused to release the album, citing the absence of a soloist and acoustic instruments, and songs approaching 10 minutes in length. Finally, producer Francis Dreyfus agreed to press a limited number of copies of the album. After a while, the album gained worldwide recognition and took its place in history as a significant turning point in electronic music. Today, the album has sold over 15 million copies, and Jarre continues to be talked about with his many important works that followed.
