TV SERIES
Inventing Anna
Inventing Anna, a nine-episode miniseries aired on Netflix last year, is an intriguing production based on a true fraud story that allows us to critically look at human behavior and social patterns while watching the ongoing fraud tricks.
The series is about Anna Sorokin, the daughter of a low-income family of Russian descent, introducing herself as Anna Delvey, the daughter of a wealthy German businessman, and defrauding a large number of New York's elite, opening the doors to the luxurious life she's always wanted. The character of Anna, whose intelligence, refined tastes and German accent fascinate everyone she meets, swindles banks, financial institutions and friends for hundreds of thousands of dollars between 2013 and 2017 when she was only 26 years old. We follow the story of Vivian Kent, a determined journalist who stumbles upon a career failure while on the rise, as she pursues Anna's story in order to prove herself again. We actually watch this series, which is obvious from every aspect of a journalist's pen, as if we are moving to new file titles of a striking news in every episode.
The series creates parallels and contrasts between Vivian and Anna from time to time, conveying the bond between the two women very clearly. Ultimately, the two need each other; Vivian needs Anna's story to save her career, and Anna needs Vivian to make good news about herself in order to get the fame she craves. In fact, we are watching the story of both characters creating themselves. While doing this, a love-hate relationship is established between them because they go through similar paths, whether they are aware of it or not.
Inventing Anna's producer-writer is Shonda Rhimes, formerly the creator of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and co-producer is Jessica Pressler, the real-life counterpart to Vivan Kent, who wrote the article for New York Magazine, which she turned it into the screenplay of the series. Anna Delvey / Anna Sorokin is played by the up-and-coming actress among the new generation Julia Garner and journalist Vivian Kent by Anna Chlumsky. We can say that Julia Garner exhibited a remarkable acting. The most interesting part about this true crime story is that, that the story begins with this line in the first place, “This whole story is completely true. Except for all the parts that are totally made up.” As you watch further the episodes, this word becomes more meaningful. After all, if this is a scam story and Anna is moving forward with her own reality, how can we be sure what exactly is true and what is a lie in the script? A mini-series that you can add to your watchlist for a flowing and exciting story.

BOOK
What Men Live By
Author: Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy
As the author of such great works as Anna Karenina, War and Peace, The Kreutzer Sonata and Resurrection, Tolstoy spent most of his life focusing on social issues as people, family, religion, state, society, freedom, submission, rebellion etc. Tolstoy in his book "What Men Live By", has sought a new understanding of morality in paintings that reflected real life. This book consists of six different works in total. The work first describes the need to love oneself. The story, which contains many feelings about humanity, flawlessly deals with many points through the main character poor shoemaker Simon and his relationship with Michael.
It is a book that we would recommend to those who are new to classical literature or want to read it again, and we wish those who plan to read it a pleasant time in advance.

MUSIC
Deep Purple - Come Taste the Band, End of An Era
Since their 1968 debut album, Deep Durple had gone through various lineup changes and had left behind successful years under the leadership of founder guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and with the contributions of the band's key player Jon Lord on keyboard instruments. In 1975, Blackmore, known for his harsh and impulsive personality, decided to leave the band for reasons such as his planned solo project and the band's music shifting to the funk-rock genre.
At that moment, the most senior members of the band were drummer Ian Paice and keyboard player Jon Lord. The band had already undergone a significant change about two years ago, with the departure of lead singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover, with whom they had achieved great success. They were replaced by young singer David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals).
With this lineup, they had released two chart-topping albums in 1974, "Burn" and "Stormbringer", and with the success of these albums, they were able to fill the void left by the departure of Gillan and Glover. With the Blackmore’s leaving, Deep Purple had two options. Either they would disband the band completely and go their separate ways, or they would continue on their way with a new guitarist to replace Blackmore, one of the founders of the band, who had become a symbol of the band with his inventive style.
They decide to move on and invite 24-year-old guitarist Tommy Bolin, who they had heard and liked his performance on drummer Billy Cobham's jazz-fusion album Spectrum, and so Bolin joined Deep Purple. The band immediately started working and recorded the new long play "Come Taste the Band". The album was released in November 1975 and received generally good comments. New guitarist Tommy Bolin contributed to the compositions of 7 of the 9 songs on the album. Songs like "Gettin' Tighter" and "You Keep On Moving" were highly acclaimed, while the instrumental "Owed to G", a tribute to the famous American composer George Gershwin, was another remarkable song on the album.
After the release of the album, the band started a tour for Australia, Japan and the USA. During the tour, unfortunately, the young guitarist Bolin was not approved by the band's fans who missed Ritchie Blackmore and like to listen his style; he became to focus these reactions and had difficulty motivating himself to play music properly. Deep Purple, decided to disband completely in July 1976, which had already undergone big changes, as a result of the intense touring life, the increasing substance abuse of the band members and various disagreements.
Meanwhile, the story of Tommy Bolin ended untimely and sadly. Bolin was a successful musician, but his growing addictions prevented him from making music in a healthy way. Bolin died on December 3, 1976, due to overdose, substance abuse in the night hours after completing one of the promotional concert for his just released solo album. He was only 25 years old. This loss is both sad as the loss of a very young musician and will always be remembered by the band's fans as a dramatic incident that closed Deep Purple's first era of success.

DOCUMENTARY
25 LITRES
National Geographic Turkey's ’25 Liters’ documentary, prepared to raise awareness about water consumption, discusses today's water scarcity problems, especially in Istanbul, with Gökhan Özoğuz, the lead singer of the band Athena as the narrator, and conveys us information about the solution.
Imagine having to live on just 25 liters of water every day. In our daily lives, we spend an average of 6 liters of water while brushing our teeth. 4 liters when washing hands and 15 liters when flushing once. When you wash dishes, which could full a machine, by hand, 103 liters of water are spent, 9 liters in the machine by the way, when you rinse them, 57 liters flow through the tap. Also, when we think about the amount of water we consume indirectly, that is, the amount of water used in the production, packaging and even transportation stages, did you know that we consume 140 liters of water by drinking a glass of coffee? With the same logic, a glass of orange juice equals 170 liters, a glass of milk 180 liters, a cotton shirt 2,700 liters, a hamburger 2,400 liters of water.
While the 25 Liter documentary gives many such striking information about our water consumption, it also focuses on a fiction that it refers to the year 2040 and talks about the possible water shortage in the future. In a story told in a parallel fiction in which we live with smart equipment where technology has advanced in 2040, but our world is alone with the threats of climate change and drought, the right to use of water per person is restricted to 25 liters. On the other hand, we see the information given by the experts in the journey that Gökhan Özoğuz took us and what we can do before it is too late by acting together.
You should definitely watch and make watch the ‘25 Liters’ documentary, which takes 53 minutes. You'll be amazed at how much water you consume daily in simple steps, and this documentary will give you a new window into thinking about your own water footprint.
