PORTRAITS FROM ATU

a2 SEDEM YENER

Name & Surname?

Sedem Yener

What is your title?

Operations Support Assistant Manager

Where would you most like to live?

I stayed in the city I want to live in the most, namely San Diego, USA for five years. It is still one of my favorite cities. The second city that I most wanted to live is Tokyo.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

Sometimes I can be too impatient. I think it is important to stop and take a breath both in our business and social life. It allows you to make more solid decisions.

What is your favorite feature?

To be result-oriented. In a crisis, I prefer to focus on how we can solve the crisis rather than saying “that happened and this happened”. If I understand that I cannot solve the crisis, I will definitely not hesitate to get support. I don't see support as a weakness. I think this is my second favorite feature :)

What is your greatest fear?

Unfortunately, I have a fear from my childhood. Ahh, the brothers? Sometimes it can be a problem if you have a brother :) I don’t like the darkness. I don't like being in the dark except asleep.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I wish my voice was beautiful. It wouldn't be bad to be able to sing soothing songs, you know, there are voices that purify people's souls. :)

Who is your favorite hero in history?

It may sound like a cliché, but my hero is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. I think that all the discourses he made throughout his life are like a lesson. In particular, I think the whole world should take notice of his statements about the enemy soldiers who died in Çanakkale and his point of view against the war.

Which features do you want to see in your friends?

Honesty is essential to me. If you have an honest friend you never experience any bad surprises.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would like to change my most disliking feature- my impatience.

What is your favorite occupation?

Reading books. I don't read my books very fast like everyone else. I prefer to progress slowly by building my imagination. I even read my personal development and work-oriented books by applying this method. Thus, they are more permanent in our memory.

What is your greatest regret?

I'm trying not to be a person caught in my past. That's why my regrets do not happen much. My only regret may be that I came back from America a little earlier.

When and where were you happiest?

As a sportswoman in my time, the first time I broke the record in Turkey. It was one of my happiest moments. It was an indescribable happiness. (Year: 1998).

What is your motto?

It is a classic saying, but the statement of Şems-i Tabrizi affected me very much, especially due to the health problems I experienced in the last year and it remained as a lesson to me. The statement is as follows; "Surrender instead of resisting the changes brought the God. Let life flow with you, not despite of you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?”

We shouldn't be afraid of change. Sometimes life gives us difficult experiences. I believe that no matter how strong we stand up and challenge these difficulties, the positive energy finds us again and we overcome them very well.
