Succession

Succession is a series that conveys the rivalry within an American media giant family in a very simple and impressive way. It moves according to the rhythm of the outside world, which slows down when it needs to and speeds up when it needs to, sometimes according to the emotions of its characters, and sometimes crushing these emotions without caring at all. We can say that it is a modern thriller that skillfully combines comedy and drama, where you sometimes wonder how you can enter the emotional world of such dark characters. Although it is full of surprise developments and makes moves that shock the audience, especially at the end of the season, it does not build its basic relationship with the audience on the surprises that we often encounter in Netflix series that are shot to be watched over and over again. In short, it doesn't "surprise for the sake of surprising", the only purpose of surprises is not entertainment and engagement. The big and unexpected developments, especially at the end of the season, tell the audience more about the ruthless and sharp turns, hypocrisy, cruelty and randomness of power and the game of thrones than about a play being performed.

Madonna in a Fur Coat

Sabahattin Ali's Madonna in a Fur Coat, one of the most important works of Turkish literature, which I strongly recommend to anyone who has not read it yet, and which I believe you will find something of yourself in, tells the story of the love between Raif Efendi, who went to Berlin as a student in the 1920s, and the painter Maria Puder. Raif Efendi becomes infatuated with a self-portrait of a painter he sees in an art gallery and begins a platonic love affair with the woman in the portrait. Later, he soon meets the owner of the face in the painting, whom he admires to the point of obsession, and as the days pass, they fall in love with each other. The Madonna in a Fur Coat is a very different novel from a classic and simple love story, especially with a simple and comprehensible language that mercilessly hits us in the face that nothing in life should be postponed, where soul analysis is done very well. I believe that the desire to read the book over and over again over the years is not only because it is a gripping love story, but also because of how prejudices affect our lives and the effect of missed opportunities on people is told in a very beautiful language. .

Mazhar Fuat Özkan, Actually, No Problem!

Mazhar Fuat Özkan, who represented our country in the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest with "Diday Diday Day", participated in the 1987 Eurovision Turkey final with the song "No Problem". The song did not get the expected ranking in the national competition and Seyyal Taner & Grup Lokomotif represented our country that year. Having failed to get the result they wanted from Eurovision, the band released their 4th long-player "No Problem" that year. The album seems to be overshadowed by the first three MFÖ albums that preceded it, which were great hits. However, it contains some important classics of the band. With the album, which was prepared with the support of the Istanbul Gelişim staff and arrangements by Garo Mafyan, MFÖ gradually moves away from their usual acoustic recordings, and the arrangements are marked by the synthesizer sound and rhythm machines that are gradually becoming digitalized. The most striking tracks on the album are "No Problem", which gives the album its title and is a successful result of MFÖ's collective work despite the fact that the band did not perform as expected in Eurovision, Mazhar Alanson classics "Yalnızlar Garı" and "Tam Ortasındayım", and Fuat Güner's "Uç Oldum", a Fuat Güner composition that describes endless longing in a unique language. In addition to all these songs, a different song by Mazhar Alanson stands out. The song "Muhabbetler Sana Doğru" tells the story of a lover who calls his beloved with abstract concepts and is the product of a wonderful and meticulous work, with Garo Mafyan's arrangement contributing jazz harmonies and his masterful Yamaha CP-70 electric piano parts. After this album, MFÖ's new Eurovision adventures and a 3-year period without an album would begin, and they would enter the 90s with a very different understanding of music and songs, making big surprises for their fans.

My Octopus Teacher

One of the most impressive documentary films of recent years, My Octopus Teacher is an Oscar-winning production that won Best Documentary Feature and many other awards at the 93rd Academy Awards. This documentary tells the incredible story of Craig Foster, a South African diver who embarks on a unique journey to discover the mysterious world of the submarine. When things go wrong in his life, Craig Foster returns to his childhood passion and begins freediving off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Although the water is very cold and the waves very rough, he even refuses to wear a wetsuit so that he can experience underwater life firsthand. Over time, he became intrigued by the creatures underwater and especially the behavior of an octopus. Every day when he goes to study it, he carries his camera with him. Foster's relationship with this octopus, which becomes a part of his life, deepens over time and makes the viewer question the bond between man and nature. It also provides important information about the undersea ecosystem and gives us the opportunity to better understand our natural world. The production, which is available on Netflix, is directed by marine scientist, environmental journalist, natural history director Pippa Ehrlich and James Reed. It is also produced by Craig Foster. Filled with visually captivating scenes, 'My Octopus Teacher' is an impressive documentary film that you can put on your watch list to closely observe the colorful and vibrant life under the sea and to better understand the relationship between human and nature.
