Black Swan

The Individual Pangs of Perfectionism Between Imperfection and Perfection. "Black Swan" is a cult movie "in my opinion" about the relentless battle between blacks and whites who clash with each other all their lives in order to come to the surface. Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman), who lives with her domineering mother, is a young dancer at a prestigious ballet school in New York. As the ballet school is preparing for the production of Swan Lake, the director of the play has to choose a new principal dancer. This dancer must be able to portray both the innocent, fragile White Swan and her darkly sensual, evil twin, the Black Swan. A dark atmosphere in which you find yourself in the dark atmosphere, along with the wonderful music and artistic shots... I highly recommend it to those who cannot find their place while fighting for self-realization.

DIARY OF A MADMAN - OVERCOAT- NOSE - PETERSBURG TALES - CARRIAGE

I highly recommend the book 'Diary of a Madman - Overcoat- Nose - Petersburg Tales - Carriage', which you can read from the pen of Gogol, the author of satire, black humor and plenty of thought-provoking stories. The stories in the book are Neva Boulevard, Nose, Portrait, Overcoat, Diary of a Madman and The Carriage. All the stories include the very simple categorisation of objects, things or anything tangible, the conditions of the time and Gogol's criticism. The stories sometimes make you laugh and sometimes make you think while you laugh. However, The Nose, The Overcoat and The Diary of a Madman are my favourite stories. The Nose is the story of Ivan Yakovlevich, who wakes up one morning in St Petersburg and finds that his nose is missing. In this story, the classifications of the time are described using the metaphor of the nose. The other is The Overcoat. It tells the story of a self-sufficient civil servant called Akaki Akakiyevich's desire for a new coat, and the theft and loss of the coat after he has it. And of course, as we read this, we realize that it is not just about an overcoat again. Finally, the diary of a madman. Ivanov works as a civil servant in a government office. Ivanov, who leads a normal life, falls in love with the daughter of the director of the department where he works. Here, too, the narrative emphasises classification and harsh living conditions. After falling in love, he begins to write a diary, and in this diary we witness Ivanov losing his mind. We even see Ivanov introduce himself as the new King of Spain. I also recommend that after reading Diary of a Madman, you go and see Erdal Beşikçioğlu's play on stage. I am sure you will read the stories, which are different from each other, in no time because of the fluency of the language. .

About Barış Manço, Son of Rocks and 2023

This year we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey on October 29th. While this date is very important for all of us, it also reminded a song exactly 48 years after its release, by a very important artist in the history of Turkish popular music.

In 1975, Baris Manço back from military service for about a year when he took a compulsory break from his music career. During this period, he made some changes in the line-up of his band Kurtalan Ekspres, trying to form the most compatible line-up and at the same time trying to establish his musical style with these new band members. Although the band released many 7 inch singles from 1971 and that day, they did not released an album yet. Finally Manço and Kurtalan Ekspres released their first studio album, 2023, in 1975 after a long period of studio work. The album had a colorful tracklist, contains progressive concept songs, electronic music influenced songs and folk-rock songs. Viewed today, we accept it as a very successful album in musical terms, the album did not attract the expected attention except few songs from audiences due to Manço's military service and his withdrawal from the record market.

There is a very interesting poem called "Kayaların Oğlu / Son of Rocks", in the album which is also the subject of this article, and which is still a mystery to some, and which refers to the 100th anniversary of our Republic of Türkiye, followed by an instrumental song called "2023". The song symbolically describes the founding of the Republic of Turkey in 1923 and points to a great rebirth and rise in 2023, the 100th anniversary of the republic.

That day, it is hard to imagine what was Barış Manço thinking when he wrote these words. Manço, who has always been nourished by his own country and the culture he belongs, and who has carried out avantgarde works according to the spirit of the time, depicted with great excitement and pride the establishment of the young Republic of Türkiye, which was founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, drawing its strength from Turkish history, and described its transition to the second century as a rebirth.Manço's dream was to present this song live in 2023 at the age of 80, accompanied with a big orchestra. Although he left us too early, not realized this dream, but we fulfill his will and complete this article by sharing below the lyrics of this meaningful song, about October 29, 2023 here. Rest in peace, you will not be forgotten Barış Manço.

"On a warm October morning in 2023 I woke up with a slight numbness in my legs And like a great sycamore of a hundred years old I started to take root that morning And for the first time on my left and right I noticed other sycamores that have been standing for centuries A light morning breeze rose from the east And the centuries-old sycamores welcomed me into their midst And on a warm October morning in 2023 We watched together The birth of a new son of rocks”
