PORTRAITS FROM ATU

a2 ONUR ERTUNÇ
Istanbul

Could you introduce yourself? What is your first and last name?

Hi, I'm Onur Ertunç. I'm passionate about travelling and discovering new cultures. I think this stems from the fact that I moved around a lot when I was younger because of my family's work. Although these changes were challenging for me at the time, over time I began to realize the value of the important skills they gave me, such as assertiveness and perseverance.

What is your role at ATU Duty Free and what do you do in this role?

I work as Fendi boutique manager at ATU Duty Free. With my luxury retail experience, I focus on customer satisfaction and I am committed to preserving ATU's heritage and providing the best service to our passengers. It's really important to me to protect ATÜ's value and to make the right decisions at the right times with my team.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

If I could live anywhere in the world, I would definitely choose Barcelona. This city is full of impressive architecture, art, a vibrant culture and the delightful atmosphere of the Mediterranean. Its warm climate, gorgeous beaches and delicious Spanish cuisine make it an attractive place to live.

Is there a characteristic you would like to change about yourself? Why?

One characteristic I would like to change in myself would be impatience. Throughout my career, I sometimes make rash decisions because I want to get quick results, which can lead to some processes reaching a conclusion before they are fully mature. Learning to be patient, to look at things from a broader perspective and to take things step by step.

What is your favorite feature of yourself that you are most proud of?

Being proactive and solution-oriented is one of the traits I am most proud of. My ability to quickly find solutions when faced with any problem and my ability to manage this process correctly have given me a great advantage in my career and personal life.

What is your greatest fear in life?

Uncertainty and loss of control is one of the things that scares me the most in life. As someone who likes to be planned and strategic, I can have difficulties in the face of unforeseen situations that are beyond my control. Such situations can cause stress in personal life as well as in business life.

Is there a talent you wish you had?

I'd love to be able to play a musical instrument. I think learning to play the piano would be a great way to enrich my life, both mentally and emotionally. Music is a great way to express your emotions, and it also helps you to focus and be more disciplined. I think having this skill would help me to balance the intense pace of my career and to relax mentally.

Who is your favorite historical hero, from the past or present?

The historical figure I most admire is Leonardo da Vinci. He was a genius who left his mark on history with his versatility and his passion to gain in-depth knowledge in every field. Da Vinci's work in fields as diverse as science, art, engineering and anatomy, and his creativity and inquisitive mind are a great source of inspiration for me.

What qualities do you most value in a friend?

One of the things I look for in a friend is someone I can spend quality time with. This not only creates fun moments, but also allows us to have deep and meaningful conversations. A sense of humour makes life more fun, while an adventurous spirit helps us to have new experiences.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?

I sometimes tend to be too serious about works. Especially in times of stress, I can take things too seriously and put too much pressure on myself. What I would like to change about myself would be to replace this seriousness with a little more flexibility and ease. This would help me to gain a more balanced and peaceful perspective in both my professional and personal life.

What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?

Traveling in my free time, exploring new places and meeting different cultures is my biggest passion. Traveling not only helps me to see new places but also to gain different perspectives. Reading books and taking personal development trainings are also among the activities that make me happy. Nurturing myself both mentally and spiritually is one of the most important activities I enjoy in my free time.

What is your biggest regret in life?

I can say that I have no great regrets in life, because every experience has given me something. However, there were times in my career when I felt I was too late to seize some opportunities. Even so, these situations taught me a few things and helped me to make more confident choices in the future. Rather than dwelling on what might have been, I try to see every experience as a chance to learn.

Can you share with us the place and time where you felt the happiest?

The times when I feel happiest are when I achieve success and when I can share this success with my loved ones. The moments when I complete a particularly difficult project and receive positive feedback are among the happiest moments for me. I can also say that spending time in nature with my loved ones and having meaningful conversations with them are the moments when my happiness peaks.

Do you have a slogan or motto that has motivated you throughout your life?

“Curiosity is the driving force behind the acquisition of knowledge.” Leonardo da Vinci.
